A bushwhacking attempt on Robert Fuller by someone he takes care off opens some old suspicions about Slim Sherman's late father Matt Sherman who may have been involved with the theft of an army gold shipment. In any event a rather arrogant and officious Major John Hoyt comes to take charge of the investigation. All traces of the shipment seemed to stop at the Sherman ranch.
Joining them are disgraced army officer Frank Overton and his son Dee Pollock also looking to clear his name or maybe find the gold for himself. In any event it's one strained posse that's looking for clues at the same time eyeing each other suspiciously. The only one we know is on the up and up is John Smith.
The story is an interesting one with an ending right out of The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre.
