60s Vibe

Warning: Spoilers
I definitely can feel the 60s vibe on this episode. I like watching Laverne and Shirley stone. I appreciate the two rock stars as gentlemen because they knew the girls were high, even though they trick them to elope, they didn't take advantage (if you know what I mean). And they do leave them money to go home, however I don't know why they couldn't just take them home safely instead of leaving them but they had to go.

BUT, my favorite part of this episode is Eric Idle because I am a Monty Python fan; I watched the show, the movies, and everything Python related. I can't see him and not sing Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.

Laverne and Shirley get stoned
LaverneandShirleysucks9 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know if the move to California is good to the girls when it comes to substance abuse. First they get drunk at work eating rum candy and now they attend a drug fueled Hollywood party where they proceed to get stoned out of their minds on pot brownies.

I guess since it's now the mid 60's and marijuana was all the rage they had to toss the girls into a smoke filled pot party. There is one funny part where Laverne picks up a hand mirror off the table to check her face and unknowingly flips a mountain of coke over her shoulder that was sitting on it.

An episode like this makes me miss the innocence of the 50's era when they were in Milwaukee. The drug/hippie era just isn't my thing.

The story goes that these two Beatles wannabees on tour from England invite the girls to their drug den after meeting at Cowboy Bills earlier. Laverne recognizes them on sight so they must be semi famous.

At the party the wannabees decide to ask the girls to marry them so they can save on their taxes. At that point, the girls are so stoned from the pot brownies that they say yes and head off to Vegas.

It should be funny seeing the girls stoned but it wasn't for me. I guess i'm uptight, but I don't find hilarity in getting high off drugs. Even after they learn that they're stoned, the girls are thrilled that they're high. Whatever.

Even more appalling is that these Beatles wannabees know the girls are stoned out of their minds and still try and go through with the wedding, even holding up their nearly passed out bodies at the alter. It's sick.

Even if they had gotten married it would've been annulled the next day since both girls were heavily under the influence. Luckily the minister saw what was going on and stopped the ceremony cold.

At this point, the girls are completely passed out and the Beatles wannabees then just toss bus fare in their passed out laps and leave them there in the middle of the chapel! How nice!

At least have the courtesy to get them to a hotel room where they can be safe for the night. It's just so cold and heartless the way they just leave them there passed out like that. But it's a situation comedy so....it's funny!!?

Incredibly, when the girls come to they don't even wonder where the men are or why they're passed out in the chapel. They just shrug it off and hope their next wedding is better and walk out. They've been stranded in Vegas and they don't seem go care in the slightest! Maybe they were still high?

I'll give it 2 stars for a couple of chuckles here and there but overall it's another dud for me. So far they've got drunk and stoned in L. A.....what's next? Laverne & Shirley attend an orgy?! Yikes.
