Sex & Nudity

  • Upon first finding the baby in the woods, Laura changes it, and while nothing is explicitly seen, as she does, she says, "now don't you cry, and be a good little...girl," implying that she looked discreetly at the baby's privates to identify its gender.
  • Willie gets reprimanded for looking at corset ads in a catalogue.
  • Harriet erroneously (and hilariously) believes Willie is the father of Laura's baby.
  • Anna and Bobby have sex out of wedlock (off screen) and have a baby out of it.

Violence & Gore

  • When a fire is accidentally started, Nathaniel tries to prevent Anna from escaping so that they may burn together. Anna fights herself free, knocking Nathaniel down, causing him to bump his head and fall unconscious. He has a visible wound afterwards.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The mood of the episode is very solemn, and in many cases sad. Anna lives under the rule of a VERY strict, very religious father. She somehow has a baby in secret and has to hide it in the woods and lure in somebody to take care of it for her.
  • One night, Laura prays to God that Charles won't find the baby's biological parents so she can keep her. She says how much she loves her Grace and doesn't feel someone who would give up a baby deserves to get it back. Charles overhears the prayer and has a look of concern, almost regret on his face.
  • Laura has to tearfully give up Grace at the episode's end. It's quite an emotional scene, and during her closing narration, Laura says she knew she'd never see her Grace again.
