Renegade Paiutes have attacking travelers on the trail to San Carlos. Jed Walker and his sister Sally need to go there, but only disgraced guide Ben Murray is available to lead them. Ben has a reputation as a coward, but the Ranger tells him that cowardice is a complicated thing, and Ben agrees to take the Walkers to San Carlos. The Ranger and Tonto secretly follow them from a distance, so as not to shake Ben's confidence in himself. But when the renegades attack, the Ranger and Tonto rush in and assist Ben in driving them off. But they know the renegades will attack again soon. When Tonto offers to try to go to the friendly Paiute Chief for help, Jed asks why an Indian would risk his life for a white man. Tonto tells him that red or white, all men are brothers. It was good to see Tonto get to do some speechifying which provides a fine lesson for kids of all ages. Another entertaining color episode.
