The camp is beset by a shortage of newsprint. It seems that instead of South Korea, all publications have been sent to South Dakota. During the dearth, everyone is edgy. Charles, who has the Boston Globe sent to him by his family, first class, gets a week's worth of newspapers. He chooses to hoard these. The unfair thing is that he only asks to read the papers first and then let the others have them. One day, however, he suspects that someone has stolen one of them and gets on the intercom and offends the entire camp. Reprisals take place and lots of rather cruel practical jokes.
A more serious plot has to do with a North Korean soldier being brought in for stomach wounds. It turns out he is being guarded by several South Korean soldiers, one of whom is his brother. They were separated by issues of survival. They cannot talk lest they are both imprisoned. Hawkeye works out a solution.
