Laverne and Klinger and so on and so Forth
Hitchcoc22 April 2015
Klinger gets a Dear Max letter from someone he is no longer married to anyway. His ex- wife, Laverne, has divorced her second husband and has now hooked up with Max's best friend (former that is). Who should show up in camp but a recruiting officer, played by Barry Corbin. Of course, Klinger is totally in the dumps and has given up on life. All he can think about is the wife he doesn't have anyway. And, of course, he decides to fall for the recruiting line where the army is his best friend. He re-enlists and Potter swears him in. For six years, yet. There is also a subplot about a male nurse who gets no respect or rank. In an interesting twist, he went into the army as a private, while women go in as second lieutenants. Of course, there are some interesting twists that we need to wait for. A pretty decent offering.

Slow Developing Plot For Klinger
DKosty12321 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
While it seems like this is moving very fast, the conclusion of this plot with Klinger will actually not play out until the final episode of the series. Here is the beginning - a Dear Maxie Letter from his girl back home. It seems she married someone Max did not like. So Klinger enlists his best friend back home to break up the marriage.

Hi girlfriend then sends him a letter that yes, her marriage has ended, and that Klinger's best friend is behind it. Then, a kicker line at the end of the letter, sorry Klinger, she is now going to marry the best friend. I guess the women's clothes she sent Max had a run in them.

By coincidence, the officer who is in charge of retention (re- upping) of servicemen has come to the camp. He signs up the despondent Klinger for another tour of Korea. Menawhile, the guy orders Potter to give the rest of the officers another tour pep talk. It does not go real well, and Potter's heart is not really into this talk. He wants to go home too.

Klinger would have a long ways to go from here to that final episode, but this one actually begins to lead there. There are times in this series where episodes tie together. Klinger's character is often used as one who ties things together. Everyone in the show as a regular serves this role once in a while.

Reverse discrimination
safenoe16 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
M*A*S*H was well ahead of its time with this episode, tacking reverse discrimination. Sgt. Barney Hutchinson (Sam Weisman) is a nurse who grumbles that as a male nurse, he has missed out on officer to promotion, whereas female nurses get such a promotion. Very brave for the writers to touch the sensitive issue of discrimination against males.

Anti Army Propaganda
angelsunchained29 June 2021
I like MASH, but this episode just bugged me. Anti-Army sentiments throughout the episode by the annoying Hawkeye and BJ. What the heck, nothing new here, the entire series was anti-establishment and anti-US Military. Peace Brother.
