Could have been a contender
safenoe6 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Kiss of the Sabre could have been a contender, and in fact in some ways I wonder if it inspired Dennis Potter to write The Singing Detective was debuted two years later. Also, there was a rather noirish feel to Kiss of the Sabre, and I'm sure the actors had loads of fun and laughs behind the scenes.

The opening scene was hilarious for sure and set the tone, but I can somewhat agree with other reviewers that with more tight writing and directing, this could have been a landmark episode.

I must admit I haven't seen the Magnum reboot, and to be quite honest, it's hard to imagine I would want to.

Magnum Does Bond
dabaker-5969323 September 2023
One of the series's best. Magnum's infrequent parodies (James Bond, Indiana Jones, and film noir) are just plain fun. These episodes never taking themselves or the subjects too seriously and yet pay them homage. Selleck as Bond is just great - all tongue-in-cheek but still true to the Bond persona - James Bond style, class, sophistication, and action - all with a wink at the camera. Selleck and this stellar cast really pull this off. The addition of the kooky but frighteningly insightful author make it all the more entertaining. They should have brought her back for a second episode later in the series. Awesome episode.

Could have been

Warning: Spoilers
Potential for a classic tongue-in-cheek episode except for Cassie Yates. The idea is fun. A would be writer who idolizes and romanticizes Magnum gets involved in one of his cases. And in her imagination/writing the fun part takes place which is the back and forth of depicting Magnum and his buddies as a James Bond with entourage. Magnum is Bond with TC as personal friend/pilot, Rick as millionaire playboy moving from one casino to another, and Higgins as Magnun's chauffeur. No doubt the regulars had some fun and got good support from Paul Gleason. But Yates has no appeal at all in this episode. She does embody the spirit of a complete buttinsky but for the episode to work you have to care for her at least a little and that doesn't happen. What could have been a classic becomes a bit of a bore.

absolutely horrible

There were a few of these type ep's during the series run, but this one is i think the worst. Frankly i agree with another review that says it could have been good, but I don't know that Cassie Yates was the problem. She might have been, but I'm not sure but I do know it just iddn't work.
