HE'S RIGHT... YOU'RE WRONG!
tcchelsey31 January 2024
Totally OUTRAGEOUS episode, and with a dose of politics this time around. All charged up, Herb decides to throw his hat in the ring and run for city planning commissioner. One problem: He doesn't know the issues!

What's the BIg issue? Proposition E, a broad plan to tear down an old neighborhood and make way for tomorrow. Herb's opponent is a guy named Cheever (well played by John Fiedler), who supports Prop E, but doesn't have much of a personality. In the meanwhile, Dobie falls for Cheever's daughter, Betty Jane, who opens his eyes about the importance of the proposition.

Both Herb and Cheever go head to head in a local tv debate and Herb believes personality wins over everything else! Dobie lays it on the table for his dad, exclaiming, "What Cheever said meant little, and your speech meant absolutely nothing!" He drags Herb to the broken down neighborhood, where he actually grew up, right into a condemned building to face facts. It takes an old sink falling onto his toes and part of the ceiling collapsing on his head to wake Herb up!

Funny and poignant-- and wait for the unexpected ending. One for the books. Top writing by Lester Pine, series writer for PETER GUNN and BEN CASEY, who later wrote the classic Alan Arkin film, POPI.

SEASON 3 EPISODE 14 remastered.
