Eight isn't enough (dvd)

Warning: Spoilers
This season gets off to a flying start: The Bundys living in Chicago, I was always wondering why basketball and the Bulls were never mentioned maybe due to the amazing record of 4 touchdowns in a single game! Thus, the first episode deals with basketball with real NBA stars and we can see Bulls flag in the shop during the second. (8.10) is about a sports bar where Bulls are in the place and the final episode is about a sports trivia with a Bulls question!

Another expectation was to see again Al in his shoe store because there's not a lot of stuff over there lately. Bingo: (8.8) and (8.15) are all about this holy place. This year, he seems to have new colleagues as well: if Aaron is maybe a bit too nice, Dexter (8.21) was an immediate hit and it's pity he didn't return.

This thematic of this year would be active feminism: Kelly seems (a bit) less dumb, Jefferson less effeminate, and Peggy and Marcie delivers their best performance respectively as Death (8.7) and a spokeswoman (8.5) and i don't forget the first reunion of the No ma'am society (8.8) and its opposite the Fang! On one occasion, Al even becomes friend with some Godzillas (8.22).

On the opposite, the constant people's references in each episode is a bit boring and (8.13) is indeed "the worst Noel" episode as they keep mentioning names that are unknown to me. But it's truthful to the Boss song, "fifty channels and nothing on"!

This season is again versatile funny, mixing cartoon spirit (8.2, 8.16), Bundy's Curse (8.4, 8.18, 8.26), Al's health (8.12), Al's Freedom fight (8.19, 8.23, 8.24) and tender parenthood (8.25). I could have pick my favorite episode there but my choice would be 8.20 just because of the Presidents Game, maybe the biggest laugh of this year!

Keep in mind that it's April Fool's Day.

Bud and Kelly want to start their own business, so they panhandle to raise the money they need. Meanwhile, Jefferson admits to Marcy that he used to work for the CIA and that one of his enemies, Walter Traugott, is hunting for him. Al also becomes involved in the espionage and intrigue when Traugott approaches him and tells him that Jefferson is a dangerous spy and that there is a $50K reward for information leading to his capture.

It doesn't take a genius to work out where this episode is heading, the whole spy story revealed to be an elaborate April Fool's prank played on Al by Jefferson. Except that it doesn't end there: a last second twist suggests that perhaps Jefferson is a spy after all. Will we find out in later episodes, or will the whole idea be dropped (a bit like Bud being controlled by his cool doppelganger from another dimension)?
