Suspects galore

Warning: Spoilers
Freddie Endicott Jr. must marry before his father dies if he is to receive a substantial inheritance. At episode's beginning, Freddie's father has suffered a heart attack and may not make it. Thus, Freddie is in a big hurry to marry. His attempt to marry floozy appearing Topaz McQueen falls through and his attention then turns to a nice -and naive- young woman who works for the family. She has a hot tempered brother, Vinnie Pico, who goes to Shayne asking him to stop the marriage. When Shayne refuses, Vinnie becomes violent. Almost immediately after the marriage, Vinnie's sister finds out what a cad Freddie is and Topaz finds out that Freddie has married someone else. Endicott Senior's second wife also dislikes Freddie and it is to her financial advantage that Freddie's marriage be stopped or annulled. With that many people either hating and/or being angry with the loathsome Freddie, it is little wonder that he ends up getting shot. Shayne follows the trail and comes up with a surprising solution. The best guest actor in this episode was Barbara Nichols, a familiar face on television at the time (and a former burlesque dancer) as the brassy- and sad - Topaz McQueen. An added plus of the print I saw of this episode is that it included a couple of commercials. One with Willie Mays advertising Gillett's Super Ble Blades and a commercial for Handi-Wrap (Economically priced like wax paper).
