Pat Paulsen and Nita Talbot

Broadcast no. 49 (Jan 15 1968), "Monkees Watch Their Feet" was actually 40th in production, filmed May 24-26 1967, while Michael Nesmith was recovering from his May 23 tonsillectomy. Nes does appear to introduce the marvelously deadpan Pat Paulsen, a sensation in '68 running for President on the STAG (Straight Talking American Government) ticket, his slogan, "if elected, I will win!" (he died in 1997). Paulsen's Secretary for the Department of UFO Information shows us a film depicting the alien abduction of Micky Dolenz, replaced by a lookalike robot that rusts easily and has feet pointing backwards. Micky has a field day, and the invaders are played by Stuart Margolin (THE ROCKFORD FILES) and sexy Nita Talbot, but overall the stop-start chaotic presentation is just a mess. The lone track featured is "Star Collector," making its third go-round. Next in production- "A Nice Place to Visit," which became the debut telecast of the second season.
