One of the best to this point

This episode. So well done by everyone involved.

The emotional journey of each character as they sruggled with Bobby's declining health, and their ultimate farewell to him, was breathtaking. Bobby's lucid dreams and getting to experience his son, and for us to share that with him was amazing. I loved the fade from his son's hand to Andy's.

I recently lost my mom to a sudden medical event. Watching this episode made me revisit that I didn't get to say goodbye to her. I sobbed like a child, though I'm nearing 49.

This episode set a new bar to measure NYPD Blue and all other shows against.

Bobby gives up the ghost. He and Diane were just married and now this. It was gut wrenching to watch. I assumed all along he would make it. Subplot was Andy and his ex wife who has become an alcoholic dealing with life as it comes. Not much more to say.

For bumping a character off....

I suppose this was as good as any death of a character on a show. I noticed several trite phrases and scenarios you'd find in the death of a character. I think in this show the most effective and sensible way to end a character would have been death in the line of duty. They tried to do something different by have the squad say goodbye to Simone, which was ok.
