Compassion?

Of course, I realize that these are fictional characters in a fictional setting. Of course, the key plot element is the inadvertent shooting of a thirteen year old boy who was at the scene when a bad guy pulls a gun. There is a strong element of racism in this show and the black minister is made to look like a buffoon. That aside. I take issue with Rita's character and her relationship with John Clark. It seems she just wants everything her way. Clark has been on the edge of losing his job and spending years in prison, had his father embarrass him in public with drunken pronouncements, then find the guy dead, having committed suicide and leaving his son with all the baggage, financial and emotional. So he is totally involved in forces that he can't control. Yes, she's there for him, offering him support. But suddenly it's an ultimatum. You confide in me. You work with me. I can't be in a relationship like the one you are presenting. She isn't willing to give him the time he asks for.

"Off the Wall"

Warning: Spoilers
"Nude Awakening" was so good (one of the best episodes in series history) that "Off the Wall" was always going to have huge shoes to fill.

It mostly does it, thanks to Baldwin's career and freedom being in some serious jeopardy after he accidentally shoots a young boy whilst responding to a job with Medavoy. A cop's worst nightmare, I'm sure.

Really strong acting from Henry Simmons. Jones and Medavoy sometimes play third fiddle but are front and centre in this episode, and they do a good job.

Clark is back at work one week after his dad's suicide. Mark-Paul Gosselaar plays Clark so well - the detective's frustration over the way his father took essentially the easy way out is palpable.

Don't let the term fool you. It's clear there is only one dimension of black that is in this program, no matter how many black people are starring in it. It should be noted that all nuances aside, this obvious thing unmasked it.
