The Sheffield dynasty gets a little surprise.

Warning: Spoilers
Guest stars Robert Vaughan and Joan Collins steal the episode as Maxwell's father and former secretary/wife, upsetting the prim and proper Maxwell with their scandalous behavior. Collins is having a blast playing a sophisticated looking woman who came from working class and hasn't lost her sense of fun now that she's in society. The way she flirts with her husband even in front of everybody else shows at least that she loves them. But the kids are barely featured at all, and the presence of Sylvia and Yetta gives an indication that there weren't any really good ideas for the younger characters being developed. Maxwell is actually quite stuffy here, a far cry from how he usually is when he's just alone with Fran. Niles is having fun basically bribing C.C. for information, leading to some hysterically funny moments. Too bad though that Dina Merrill wasn't around for this episode as the opportunity to see her with ex-husband Vaughn and Collins would have been delightfully scandalous. A great chemistry between Joan and Fran makes this an instantly classic episode, soapy and funny.
