Any Nanny episode in which Sylvia eats while talking is worth the price of admission

"The Nanny" is a great example of TV bubble gum--a fun way to spend half an hour without challenging the gray cells. Most episodes of the series are about Fran Fine getting herself into and out of an embarrassing situation or clearing up a misunderstanding with her boss, Maxwell Sheffield. But any episode in which the remarkably gifted Renee Taylor demonstrates her comedic approach to eating while chatting with her TV daughter is as much of a treat as the delicious food her character, Sylvia Fine, manages to slop all over the place. In this episode, her usual performance is enhanced by the fact that she's complaining about another person's lack of etiquette as she provides her own spectacle of questionable manners. Bravo, Ms. Taylor!

And so it begins with Niles and C.C.

Warning: Spoilers
In reflection of the series 25 years after it's cancellation, there are a lot of elements that I did not care for such as the pairing of Maxwell and Fran romantically and their marriage (which basically ended the whole seam of "The Nanny") and of course pairing arch enemies Niles and C.C. romantically. They were better snarking at each other, and Niles' frustration over C.C. having a boyfriend (Chandler in the previous episode) gave an indication that he was jealous. He's delighted that Chandler basically breaks up with C.C., telling her that she's codependent and smothering him, so the availability of C.C. all of a sudden gives Niles the opportunity to basically be bribed into going out with her. Funny as far as scenes are concerned, mixed as far as reality of the relationship goes. Then there's Fran's discussed at seeing Dr. Miller picking his nose in public, and she can't even bring herself to say exactly what he did other than to tell Maxwell that she's disgusted by her psychiatrist. This ends up with a confrontation that is more amusing for the insinuations than anything else, and does create some laughs. As funny as this episode is (especially with appearances by Sylvia and Yetta), it's a sign that the show is on a downswing in spite of some really funny moments. The focus on these two mismatched couples will guide the show for its remaining time on the air, and takes away from the situations that made the show funny and classic in its first three seasons.
