Fun episode.

While the 'main' story is Val getting a boyfriend, also interesting is CC quitting.

The two things result in Fran socialising with CC (great scene) and Niles missing CC, so comfort eating.

I love the clever final bit with the music teacher, and Niles warmly welcoming CC back. The actor (Daniel Davis) later said he thought Niles and CC getting together seemed odd. I don't know, they have a real chemistry even this early.

Fran certainly knows how to cut the mustard..or at least the Wasabi.

Warning: Spoilers
Fran gets one of her biggest laughs of the series as she goes to a Sushi restaurant with C.C. and puts a little too much spicy topping on her California roll and ever so briefly clears her nasal passages. C.C. has quit after a dispute with Maxwell and claims later that she's started a partnership with Marvin Hamlisch. Meanwhile, Fran is made a pass at by Val's new boyfriend and doesn't know how to break the news to her best friend. Trying to get Maxwell and C.C. to patch things up and dealing with Val's boyfriend really has her cutting too much mustard.

The best parts of this episode deals with Maxwell and C.C., and of course Niles reactions to C.C. leaving which obviously he is happy about as first, but feels sad later on when he realizes that he's lost a fantastic sparring partner. The real Marvin Hamlisch makes a guest appearance playing a fictional character. While Val's story sets off the episode, it's not really as enjoyable as what goes on with C.C., and Lauren Lane steals every scene that she is in.
