A Newhart Cinderella Story

Dick is chosen to host the Maple Syrup Queen beauty contest and leaves Stephanie in charge of the inn but she wants to be in the contest.

A good Stephanie episode and a funny satire on beauty pageants. Funniest moments is Stephanie using a black wig and Southern accent to disguise herself. Kirk has a funny sub plot about buying a machine that clucks like a chicken and lays plastic eggs for a quarter.

I'm Not a Big Stephanie Fan Much of the Time

This starts out well with Kirk stiffing the Loudon over a plastic chicken that lays cheap little plastic eggs. Dick refuses to give the chicken to Kirk until he gets reimbursed for the delivery fee. Joanna insists they pay it. She is almost a sickeningly soft touch. Anyway, Dick has been chosen master of ceremonies for the Miss Vermont Maple Syrup queen. Even though the contestants are all high school girls, Stephanie insists on being a participant. The problem is that she is responsible for the desk at the inn. Sparks fly.

Wait, what happened?

So spoiler: the episode ends with the Stratford Inn as having apparently been robbed, with everything stolen, and then the next episode begins like nothing happened? Did I miss something as suddenly we just jump right to the next episode and it's like nothing happened? Either there's a gap episode I missed (and isn't included on Prime) or this was just horrendously slopping writing. Also, it's implied that the battery in Dick's car died, but somehow they had no issue getting home? I get it, it's a sitcom, but you need to resolve stuff like this if you're going to leave it in the story. Not sure what happened here but this was bad.
