Del's wind-up goes wrong
snoozejonc25 September 2020
Rodney is shaken up after meeting Blossom on his way home from the Nag's Head and Del decides to wind him up.

This is a strong episode as Del takes advantage of his younger brother's naïveté with a pretty harsh wind up that only a particularly close brother could get away with. It is a classic example of taking a joke so far it backfires.

There are plenty of decent character moments for all three of the central characters. Granddad shows his displeasure with Del for what he puts Rodney through. One reference he makes to a previous joke Del played convincing him that he had won the pools is brilliantly delivered by Lennard Pearce.

We also have a pretty funny scene in the Nag's Head where Mickey Pearce, Trigger and Boycie all chip in with some good banter and a good finish where Del confronts Rodney with the truth.

For me it is a 7.5/10 but I round upwards.

Rodney the Peckham Pouncer

Warning: Spoilers
After quite possibly Only Fools best episode last time we get another top one where Rodney gets accused of rape from Blossom and might be then known as the Peckham Pouncer.

After a night out with mate Mickey Pierce Rodders whilst walking home from The Nags Head meets Blossom who accuses him of rape despite Rodney only trying to steady her from falling over, after worrying he will be arrested Del Boy says he believes him that he did nothing even though the police are looking for The Peckham Pouncer but is it one of Del's wind ups, whatever it is Rodders goes on the run but not too far away.

This episode does a tricky subject of accused rape well and as we learn from Del Blossom might not be all there but winds Rodney up thinking police are looking for him,its a terrific episode and the first where Nicolas Lyndhurst gets to really act the finest and there are some real laughs too even if Del realises he has gone too far with the wind up.

Funniest moments include Rodney and Mickey trying to chat up two women in the pub which Del ruins for them 'who are you two after oh not the gruesome twosome, their alright, alright their so ugly they even look alike' before he hears they are sisters 'alright girls you seen much of Cinderella since the wedding'.Other funny bits are Del winding Rodney up about the Peckham Pouncer,Granddad cooking Del a so called traditional British breakfast and Del laughing his head about the time he wound Granddad up about winning the pools 'I was in a nightclub with a bird called Camilla and I realised I didn't even do the damn pools. It ends with Del finding Rodney before Rodders learning of Del's wind up tells him he isn't having showers in the flat anymore not after what he's been doing to the water.

This is a top episode with laughs a plenty,a lot of Peckham's characters in one episode and some sublime acting from Lyndhurst and David Jason and carefully does a tricky subject without going too far.

You Expect Me to Believe That?

Had this been an episode from series one or two it would have been one of the best but the quality of series three is such that this is actually one of the least enjoyable episodes.

The writing is tighter and the episodes fly by. It's easy to binge-watch series three.

I love how we keep learning just a little bit more about the characters with each episode and the acting is at this point top-notch from all the cast.

OFAH has found its feet at last.

Wanted

As others have said, in Series 1, 2 or 4 it would have been one of the best episodes of them, but the third series of 'Only Fools and Horses' was so strong that this in contrast ends up looking like one of the weaker installments.

In fact it's another perfectly fine, if a bit thin, episode, with some lovely moments and interactions, as Del Boy's little joke ends up causing poor old Rodney a great deal of trouble.

It's nice to see the three leads get a bit of time to interact too, and it's so sad to think that Leonard Pearce's time on the show would soon be coming to an end.

Overall, a decent episode that only seems lesser in quality because it has been so high elsewhere in Series 3.
