"Art for Mom's Sake" has Shirley joining an art class where the instructor (Alan Oppenheimer) inexplicably raves about her work. Her children know all too well that their mother's paintings are none too good, and desperately try to prevent her feelings from being hurt. Alan Oppenheimer had previously appeared in both "Old Scrapmouth" and "Forgive Us Our Debits," while the always funny Liam Dunn returned in "Pin It on Danny." Bringing up the rear was Gordon Jump, in the last of his seven appearances, including the pilot. The featured song is Tony Romeo's "I'll Never Get Over You," from the LP BULLETIN BOARD (previously heard in "Hate Thy Neighbor").

Shirley Out of Character In This One

This episode stretched incredibility for me. Shirley is an art student who finds the instructor has taken an unusual shine in her work and offers to give her personal instruction. It was inexplicable to me why she behaved so naive. You can tell this show had jumped the shark by this time.
