Final appearance of Shirley's parents
kevinolzak4 March 2014
"Maid in San Pueblo" marks the fourth and final appearance of Rosemary De Camp as Shirley's mother Amanda, while replacing Ray Bolger as father Walter (formerly Fred) is Jackie Coogan, previously seen in "Did You Hear the One About Danny Partridge?" Once again, the Renfrews are argumentative, Amanda the one determined to have her way, itching to get a job out of the house, her husband now the one wanting her to conform. When the Partridges advertise for a maid, Grandma Renfrew winds up being the one sent over! Happily, this turned out to be the long hoped-for final appearance of little urchin Ricky Segall, the producers wisely giving up on the four year old has-been after ten excruciating performances (of the first twelve episodes of season four, he only missed "The Last of Howard" and "Al in the Family"). The featured song is a cover of the 1969 hit from The 5th Dimension (#20 on the Billboard Singles charts), "Workin' on a Groovy Thing," composed by Neil Sedaka and Chet Atkins, never issued by The Partridge Family (but later heard in "Miss Partridge, Teacher").
