One of the Better Episodes of the Series

Sandy Kenyon has an Adrien Brody vibe going on here as the smooth talking Ex bank robber/current inmate, Charlie. This performance and a storyline that fill the run time instead of some episodes that just feel formulaic (still a fun formula, I love the series, but so it goes).

Pete is tasked with accompanying said inmate to his daughters wedding. The hope is that this will help with his rehabilitation. Things obviously go south. So ensues the story.

Having more of an intro with a more filled out character like Charlie is what gives these standout episodes their memorability.

Style Elevates Story

Pretty good episode. Hard to know where it's going, but the usual stylishness, plus Pete's world of noir, hold attention. Pete's hired to accompany jailed felon Charlie to his daughter's wedding. Seems the law thinks this gesture might help rehabilitate the confirmed criminal! Trouble is Charlie disappears, so now Pete's in trouble. Question is: is Charlie as bad as he seems.

Sandy Kenyon (Charlie) is unusual looking for TV of the time with his skinny frame and angular features. The scene in the jail cell with the immaculately handsome Pete makes an interesting contrast. Good thing Edie (Albright) pops in for a song since I was getting tired looking at all the guys. Also, the dressing room scene at the boxing arena is a hoot, and note the slippery dark street Pete runs down, somewhere inside noir heaven. All in all, the series' trademark style makes even a routine episode more than watchable.

Wings of an Angel

Peter Gunn has an unusual assignment from a prison warden. Accompany habitual bank robber Charlie Barnes to his daughter's wedding.

The warden believes that it might help with his rehabilitation. Only at the wedding Barnes disappears.

Now an embarrassed Peter Gunn has to go looking for him. Hoping Barnes is not going to rob another bank. A boxing trainer gives an important lead. To the trail of a crooked real estate developer, but he wants to wipe out Gunn instead.

Another very stylishly lensed episode. There was a lot of unexpected humour in the boxing backroom scene.

The twist came out of nowhere and not one I expected.
