"When a buffoon tries to become a tycoon"
JordanThomasHall15 January 2019
The Lindseys are hosting Mary's parents Horace (Howard Smith, "Hazel") and Jenny Gibney (Harriet E. MacGibbon, "The Beverly Hillbillies") for dinner. Horace knows of a good deal on a plastics business that he thinks would be good for Peter. It prompts Peter to give a few short jokes and skits with the children, including a funny scene feeding a napkin bunny. Steven and Leslie's teacher Mrs. Perkins (Viola Harris) brings Peter and Mary's attention to their children's artwork. While the other children drew innocent scenes, Leslie drew a clown getting a pie in the face and Steven created an abstract called "Anything For a Laugh". Mrs. Perkins feels the children are too focused on show business without enough exposure to other professions. The Lindseys agree. When Steven decides to sell lemonade in front of their house, he is successful and shows enterprising ideas. Peter decides to go into business to set an example for Steven, and agrees to his father-in-law's business idea. Horace insists on taking the reins with his experience, however. Peter wants to take on more of an equal role and suddenly is serious-minded. Thus is born the Gib-Lind Plastics, Inc. Peter comically fumbles things to the frustration of Horace, making them ponder their future.
