Assignment One: Part 2

The creepy tone continues in the second episode. Especially the other worldliness aspects of Sapphire and Steel, they are not quiet human despite their exterior.

Rob does not trust these mysterious strangers who have suddenly appeared after his parent disappeared. He still wants the police to call round.

Steel realises that the time corridor is using an old nursery rhyme to break through the weak points.

While Sapphire tries to reassure the children, Steel makes the mistake of not fathoming that Helen might have memorised the nursery rhyme.

A policeman does show up and Sapphire shows her powers by creating a time loop.

You do keep thinking that the kids should just follow Sapphire and Steel's instructions. The episode also shows that time is cunning as it manipulates Rob.

A very good second episode.

Rob and Helen are placed in a very difficult situation, confused and mourning the disappearance of their parents, but time is taunting them, and trying to get them to release whatever forces are locked in that room.

It's enjoyable, I have to say, this show is nothing like I was expecting, I was expecting a crime drama, with Sapphire and Steel as private detectives, clearly far from the case, I am thoroughly enjoying it however.

It's perhaps pitched at a younger audience, along the lines of The Stone Tape and Century falls.

It's a strong second episode, it's quite revealing, we again learn more about the powers that Sapphire and Steel both have, and what they're up against, the very power of the being.

It'll be interesting to see how this is stretched out over the various episodes, it could perhaps become a little repetitive.

The acting is really rather good, McCallum and Lumley are excellent, the kids do a pretty good job.

8/10.
