"Ethnic Humor" is another interesting early ep of "SCTV"
tavm12 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Just watched this third "SCTV" ep for the first time on YouTube. I found out this is the original Canadian version as it has the "Out-Patient" sketch in which three men (Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, John Candy) are waiting to get a vasectomy while a nurse (Catherine O'Hara) endures their leers. Turns out their doc is female (Andrea Martin)... The US version cut this one, no doubt due to the very adult content. This was the first ep to introduce a fictional group of people called the Leutonians of which John Candy portrays one on a show about them speaking in their "language". The group that they're against are the Gypsies. Ms. Martin plays one of those in a spot on how to save money by stealing food from the Amish. Harold Ramis does a promo of him playing a Canadian Mountie and a spot on stethoscopes. This also marked the first time Dave Thomas portrayed Lin Ye Tang-very politically incorrect now. Lin claims to be Canadian-having quickly got a citizenship card-so he intros a play playing on Canadian stereotypes. I admit some of the material made me pretty uncomfortable but there's still some good laughs if you don't take it too seriously. So I say give the "Ethnic Humor" ep of "SCTV" a look...
