A Reminder
Longbow50319 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
One of the greatest successes of Smallville is in the fact that the creators have chosen to take some creative liberties in order to make the story of Clark Kent more relatable to normal human life, while at the same time keeping the Superman aura intact. Superman has been portrayed as invincible for so long, it's easy to forget that he is alone.

Alicia comes back from Belle Reeve after a year of incarceration, and claims to be cured. Clark is initially skeptical, but gradually begins to warm up to her once again after confirmation from Chloe that she was indeed pronounced cured and released, and the viewers soon find that old flames do indeed burn bright, especially when fueled by Red K.

I really liked the relationship between Alicia and Clark. Though it was brief, it really showed us how human they both were, how they longed for someone like themselves to be with. It wasn't perfect...but even when they saw the worst in each other (Alicia with her psychosis, Clark with his inhibitions taken away by red kryptonite), they were both able to come out better for it. Not to mention that without Alicia's help, the friendship between Chloe and Clark would have never been what it is today. Very underrated character.

All in all, this episode is one of the reminders of why this show is so enjoyable to watch.

Shows the greatest forces are love and hate...
cjrmnf2 June 2009
I loved this episode. I love the character Alicia Baker. For some reason, people are forgetting that this is the path most teenage girls would take if they had a super power. Their first crush or puppy love is very powerful and if it's not returned, the object of their affection would represent the worst part of their life...which, unfortunately for teenage girls, is the last 2-3 hours...every 2-3 hours.

Alicia also helped show us the vulnerability of Clark by representing the desire to be reunited with someone of his own race/kind. That's something that he tries to repress because of the tragic confrontations with his birth father. He's afraid of what he will find out about himself. Alicia represents a safe alternative.

I can't get over the final scene. It's heartbreaking and at the same time, beautiful. It is what most people who screwed up their first real love would want a chance to do or say. Up until now, I have been rooting for Chloe but I'm backing a new horse.

I know this comment is about 3-4 years late but I'm a recent convert, mainlining "Smallville" and I couldn't help but comment on this episode.

Confessions, in a Totally Incoherent Episode
claudio_carvalho4 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Alicia Baker is considered cured and released from Belle Reve institution. She meets Clark Kent, they confess to each other that they are virgins and she gives a red kryptonite necklace to him, and they go to Las Vegas to get married to each other. Lana Lang confess to Chloe Sullivan that she is virgin, but Chloe tells her that she loved a guy called Jimmy during her working period in the Daily Planet. Lana decides to have sex with Jason to keep their relationship. Lex Luthor and Lionel Luthor give a break in their fight and have a closer contact.

In this episode, there are many confessions about virginity. I did not like the story, and I found it very incoherent, since Alicia stayed for more than a year in an institution keeping Clark Kent's secret, and was shot to keep his secret. Therefore, why is Clark so afraid of a relationship with Alicia, if the girl proved that loves him and accepts him the way he is? Martha knows that Clark traveled to Las Vegas due to the effect of the red kryptonite, so why the final complaint with Clark? The lack of coherence in the attitude of these characters really upset me. My vote is six.

Horrible Episode
Rcwilkinson12313 December 2007
Superman does not have a Las Vegas wedding.

That is just how it is. I don't care if he is on red kryptonite; that just does not happen.

Alicia is supposedly the first person that Clark loves since Lana. Well, if that's the case, then he wouldn't love her for making him entirely vulnerable by putting him on red K.

Yet, despite this atrocity, Clark seems to forget that she forced him to have a Vegas wedding in the next episode. That's a bit of error in writing. What is sad is that Superman comics officiant Jeph Loeb wrote this episode.
