Episode 55 begins with a stunned Mary joining the Tates at the dinner table,revealing what she'd just seen with Burt("he called so I went when he said but I didn't talk till I saw even though he was there because he said not so I didn't and there was a soda and he sat and all of a sudden I was and he not! He said he could but I didn't think,no one thought,who thought,we all didn't!") After her entire family laughs at the notion that Burt made himself disappear,an exhausted Mary is finally convinced that she's crazy("crazy isn't so bad,I'm talking,I'm smiling!") Corinne and Eunice invite Chester to the same French restaurant they saw him at before,and when he tells Claude,his usual waiter, that today he's with his daughters,Claude(Lew Palter)doesn't buy it("of course!").While Eunice remains loyal to her father,Corinne informs him that he'd better stop cheating or she will tell her mother about it.The real Burt visits Jodie at 3:00 in the morning,meeting his granddaughter for the first time,and asks him to call his mother; when Burt answers the phone,Jodie realizes there are two Burts running around.Billy reserves a hotel room for Leslie(shades of THE GRADUATE!),which she finds adorable("I don't want to be adorable,a bunny is adorable!")and sweet("sweet and adorable? Any minute I'll turn into a cocker spaniel!") Surprised to find sisters Eunice and Corinne,and a jealous Dutch,all in the same hotel,Billy suggests Leslie join him at his house("apparently no one's there!") Leslie admits she loves Billy,adding "you're so cute and funny!" His response: "oh good...sweet,adorable,cute and funny!You're in a hotel lobby with Kermit the Frog!" Before they venture out to a movie,they fail to notice Chester walking in with another woman,slinking back out unseen.The two Burts meet for a final showdown,and the alien Burt is shamed by his conscience into leaving Earth for good; the relieved Burt admits "now I can go home!"
