The Children of Delight
Prismark1029 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The Children of Delight is such an innocent name. It is a cult group obviously inspired by Scientology.

Moxon is not happy with their activities and wants the group probed. Det Supt Eden is reluctant without facts. He believes in things like civil liberties which strangely did not apply to his colleague a few episodes ago when his son turned out to be a non violent socialist activist.

Detective Sergeant Gifford has been sent undercover to find out about them and she has concerns about some of their activities. There have been accusations of brainwashing against the group. When one leading member of the group dies, Jordan needs to find out if it was murder or suicide.

Written by Adele Rose who would go on to write many episodes of Coronation Street. It is another episode of Special Branch that has a major role for a female policewoman.

However Gifford seems to have skipped basic training when it comes to behaving undercover. She might have well carried a big sign stating: Undercover detective at large.

She keeps asking questions which really gives her away and one person does find out.

Then there was the absurd initiation ceremony which was an interrogation. Gifford just blurts out everything while under the mildest of pressure. It was obvious she also missed out on basic interrogation techniques course as well.

This could had been a good episode but it just whimpered by the end.

Some well known faces pop up in this episode including Arnold Ridley.
