McKay is right, Carter is a loose cannon.

One thing that kinda bothered me back in the day with this show.... They experience a number of different impossible scenarios every mission, yet somewhere down the line they seem to throw that thought process out the window.

Carter, in her infinite wisdom, brings back a device that's emitting some kind of energy (you'd think that'd be an instant red flag because of what's happened in the past) without knowing what it was and what it's emitting. Then a few moments later, Jonas sees the creature and the team writes him off as crazy almost immediately. They've encountered aliens, energy beings, invisible tech, and literally invisible monsters (Reetou in season 2: Show & Tell). Even though they did search the base, you'd think they'd give him the benefit of the doubt since it occurred after bringing the device to the base.

One final note though, Carter is indeed crazy.

H. P. Lovecraft's "From Beyond"
cthulhu112 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I don't think this strictly counts as a spoiler but I'm covering my assets.

This story is a clear adaptation of H. P. Lovecraft's "From Beyond". In that story, a research creates a device described as the "resonator" that produces a violet glow that stimulates the pineal gland of nearby humans so that they can see and be perceived by extra-dimensional creatures.

The Ancients' device is clearly the "resonator", though while in this adaptation the creatures are still attracted to the resonator and seem to perceive objects and humans, they don't attack the latter. The original story doesn't have the separate element of the "contagious charge" that propagates the ability to see the creatures.

It would have been nice for the SG1 folks to have credited Lovecraft's story.

The Creatures from another Dimension
claudio_carvalho23 May 2017
The SG-1 brings an alien device that was activated when Jonas touched it. On the arrival at the SGC, Jonas sees a weird bug flying through the wall. However nobody else sees the insect and General Hammond believes Jonas is stressed. But soon Teal'c and O'Neill see also creatures and Hammond orders Sam to deactivate the device and take it back to the planet where it was found. But they find that the action is ineffective and they bring back the device. Sam and Jonas discover that the device is harmless and only shows creatures from another dimension for study purpose. But the problem is the panic the sightings will bring to ordinary people. What will they do?

"Sight Unseen" is an average episode of "Stargate SG-1" with an entertaining and forgettable story about creatures from another dimension. There are funny and silly moments but in the end it is worthwhile watching. My vote is seven.

Creatures from another dimension
CCsito19 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The sixth season has several episodes that seem not that interesting and exciting. Among them are "Nightwalkers" which left out Jack O'Neill and Daniel Jackson. Using only the three members of SG-1 makes it feel like something is missing. "Cure" episode seemed somewhat slow paced and a convoluted plot involving the Tokra and an alien race. "Sight Unseen" made for an even slower paced episode involving the use of a device that allows people to see creatures from another dimension. The really slow part of the episode involved Jonas and Samantha going to visit a female relative of someone who they believed was infected by the device. Other than some human reactions to the creatures, the plot was a bit weak to me.

Goofy

A goofy episode that lacked any character development or real purpose. The effects were decent but far too few. The resolution was interesting but lacked depth.

Money Saver
fcabanski9 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is what happens when the previous two episodes include so many big budget sets and effects. This is a money saver, with limited special effects and sets.

The episode is forgettable. It doesn't advance the ongoing plots, and it isn't very interesting in itself.

  • The device attracts the creatures/bugs. But they're visible in abundance in the airport. Why would they need to be attracted when they're already in abundance?

  • Why did the ancients make the device? Because SG-1 needed a low budget episode.

  • How are they sure the bugs have always been there and are harmless? Maybe the device attracted the bugs to Earth. Answer: SG-1 needed a low budget episode.

If you're watching the whole series, you can safely skip this one without missing anything important.
