Poignant and funny.

Pilgrim's Progress is a wonderful sign off to the fourth series. It has some wonderfully poignant moments at the beginning, with the pair discussing their respective war time experiences, Albert of course in the Great War, for Harold, and the public, the Second world was very much a living and recent memory. I would imagine the first half of this episode resonated with many millions that tuned in to watch it.

Of course events go downhill when the pair board the plane, and Albert encounters an American, and French couple, diplomatic incident almost follows.

I thought this was excellent. 9/10

It is a trip abroad for Steptoe and son. Albert is proud of his service during World War One, accompanied by his medals and Harold he is off to do a battlefield tour in France.

However it seems like it is Albert's first time in a plane and when the stewardess announces that she will be their hostess he mistakes her for the kind you find in a clip joint.

Once they got on the plane Harold has fun winding Albert up and reminds him what happened to Gert Frobe in Goldfinger.

Once the plane takes off Albert gets into a fracas with an American and later a Frenchman. Albert and Harold battered and bruised or deported back to England.

There is some nice banter between Albert and Harold in this episode and it is good to see Frank Thornton playing the Frenchman when a few episodes earlier he played a snooty butler.
