Excellent episode

In my opinion this episode is seriously under-rated by some people. I see it as the very best of all 53 episodes and I cannot give it anything but a full score of ten in my own vote on its rating. Not only an entertaining storyline, but a very clever twist to the plot. The strength of the storyline, allied to magnificent acting from all the guest actors as well as those in all (John Thaw and Dennis Waterman) or many of (Garfield Morgan) the episodes, make this superb entertainment. Like many episodes of The Sweeney, it has a good humorous touch to it as well. I simply cannot see any reason to say anything remotely critical of this episode. The Sweeney is my all time favourite television drama, and this episode is firmly one of the reasons for that.

Warning: Spoilers
Raymond Meadows (Derek Francis) is a retired villain now living the high life but in the straight and narrow. A legitimate businessman.

The only fly on the ointment is oily wideboy Douglas Owen, a small time villain who has set his sights high. He is eyeing up Meadows daughter Deborah (Tina Heath.)

Meadows suspects that Owen is up to no good and is just using his daughter, she has the keys to a building that houses a diamond broker.

When some heavies cannot break Owen, Meadows decides to use Regan to do the dirty work.

Regan has a past with Meadows, he could not not nick Meadows for a gold bullion job. Meadows got away with it and a drunk Meadows brings it up as a topic during a charity football match.

It leads Regan and Carter putting Meadows under surveillance. Meadows counted on this as it would ultimately lead to Owen entering the picture.

I could not buy the the two sides of the same coin analogy. Although Regan makes sure that he gets some kind of revenge on Meadows. He lets Owen go, so he would go and batter Meadows. Risky move, an angry Owen could had killed Meadows.

Tina Heath became better known as Blue Peter presenter. There is a small role for Simon Callow and Kenny Lynch plays one of the villains.

Just an average episode for me. Nothing that makes it stand out. The usual mildly complex criminal plot to sustain the 50 minute running time and some jokes and interplay between the main characters. Next...
