Be Careful What You Wish For

This is another favorate episode of the show. Yeah, it's pretty much another retelling of the famous "Monkey's Paw" short story but a good one.

Not a lot I can say about this one, the protagonist is sympathetic, he the kind of kid that you would see everyday that get's left out or bullied because of this and that about him which I hate always tearing a person down without even knowing them. The kid is desperate for friends and does one day get the opportunity to win the affections of the group despite bullying him, unfortunately that gift is a curse in disguise.

I'll admit the only bad thing about the epsode is the function of the Gorilla's Paw is a little inconsistent, it's seems to grant unlimited wishes despite the fact it has five fingers which should mean five wishes, so how is the unlimited amount possible? But also why is it each which is causing some natural disasters literally bringing about the appocalipse; that aspect is never really explained.

But those quibbles don't bother me much, and in a way it hammers the moral of the story. As an old saying goes "with great power comes great responsibility" and unfortunately the kid is being irresponsible constantly misusing it letting himself be misguided by a group not worth impressing and driven by his own desperation, not realizing the consequences of his actions.

One of the highlights of this episode no doubt is when he wishes both the Group and himself were in a gameshow which is a parody on "American Gladiators". I'll admit it's a really dangerous version as each of the gladiators are literally monsters and in their version of Joust, when one opponent gets knocked down into a pool of acid; so yeah these guys are playing for keeps.

This episode does have good messages about thinking for yourself. Don't just do something because someone tells you too, if you know and feel it's wrong it probably is. What real friends are but also how absolute power doesn't equal absolute everything.

So be careful what you wish for, your life might depend on it.
