TALES OF THE 77th BENGAL LANCERS "The Steel Bracelet" 1956

TALES OF THE 77th BENGAL LANCERS was historical action adventure series that ran for 26 episodes during 1956 and 1957. The series was about a fictional Regiment of the Indian Army during the rule of Queen Victoria. The headliners where played by Warren Stevens, Phil Carey and Patrick Whyte. Stevens and Whyte were British officers while Carey portrayed a Canadian with the same Regiment.

In this episode, the 4th of the series, Junior Officers, Stevens and Carey take a bit of leave in a nearby city. They are the guests of the local Raj and want to get a bit of "tiger hunting" in. Of course the tigers are really of the female human type.

The pair however find themselves hip deep in something besides women trouble. They have stumbled on to a plot by the Raj's cousin to hurry along his movement to claim the throne. He has a spot of assassination planned for the local British envoy. The envoy's death will be blamed on the Raj and he will be replaced. The next in line is the cousin.

Upsetting these less than well planned intentions are Stevens, Carey and a cabaret singer, Eva Gabor. (The pretty wench that needs saving was a standard plot element of the time.) There is also a bit of comic relief tossed in with a bumbling Police inspector on the loose.

Our boys, Stevens and Carey of course save the day and dispatch the villains. Carey gets the added bonus of cuddling with Miss Gabor.

This is the first episode of the series I have seen, and it fills the half hour runtime quite well. The print I saw even had the vintage ads included.
