Tough Cookie
bkoganbing2 December 2013
The Untouchables in this episode are dealing with a cab company that wants to provide a distribution network for the Capone organization heroin product and certainly the idea is an intriguing one. The idea is brought to Frank Nitti by Grant Richards who used to be with Capone back when Al was running it, but now has this cab company.

Richards makes the moves but then is bumped off by none other than his wife Ruth Roman using her cabbie trigger man Jay Adler. Roman moves right in to the deal with Bruce Gordon. Unfortunately Robert Stack and his squad are right in on the trail.

Two women dominate this Untouchables story. Ruth Roman plays one tough cookie who has decided she's tired of being a doormat and running the business for her flashy husband. And Anne Helm plays a junkie nightclub singer who goes into rehab. If the episode had made her character the prime focus it could have been called The Woman With The Golden Arm. The scenes of drug withdrawal are right from that Otto Preminger classic.

Hell hath no fury...

When the show begins, Ness is taking a bite out of Nitti's narcotics business--thanks to some anonymous tips. So, when a huge shipment of 15 kilos of heroin is stolen, Nitti is beside himself. But, unexpectedly Nick Dulov returns the stolen drugs to Nitti and proposes they go into business together, as Dulov owns a cab company and the cabs can be used to transport the drugs. But before this can get up and running, Dulov's wife, Georgiana (Ruth Roman) kills Dulov since he's been cheating on her and she is a strong and capable woman who can run things herself...including the drug trade. She is definitely one tough cookie! But is she tough enough to survive in this crazy world of organized crime?

Ruth Roman did a good job with this somewhat thankless role. She was to play a tough woman who was ashamed of her own lack of attractiveness to me! There also was an interesting possible lesbian subtext...though I doubt it was intended. Very interesting and a nice change of pace seeing a tough as nails broad!

Everybody Wants To Be 'Top Dog'
ccthemovieman-116 March 2012
This is two episodes in a row in which "Frank Nitti" has problems with people doing damage to his business....and I don't mean Elliot Ness.

The difference is that this story is about narcotics and a husband and wife team who want to go into business with "Frank Nitti," and go about it the wrong. Well, the man - "Nick Dulov" (Grant Richards) goes about it wrong, but his wife makes him look like a small-time guy. "Georgiana Dulov" (Ruth Roman) knocks him off and makes a deal with Nitti, who is skeptical and but later convinced "this is the best businesswoman I've ever seen!" Roman is very good as the tough "Georgianna."

This episode is another example of how nobody in crime can feel safe, because you never know when someone is out to kill you. (See the movie, "Scraface," for another example.)

Outstanding episode and Ruth Roman's performance
searchanddestroy-122 October 2019
And not only episode, but also Ruth Roman's performance as a woman planning to be a big shot in drug traffic business. A ruthless but also moving character, dangerous gal speaking so smoothly but Deadly as a rattle snake, daring fighting against Nitti. Nitti who despised her because she was a woman. A woman who killed one of Nitti's goons who came to waste her. UNTOUCHABLES and the fantastic supporting characters, and also relationships between them. A must see.
