Good story, cracking cast.

A teenage girl is kidnapped, her older lover witnesses the incident, and reports it to Van Der Valk, who doesn't initially take the matter seriously, after the girl's brother explains that she's safe and well.

Series two has been engaging throughout, this final episode is one of the best of the lot, it's a clever, gritty mystery, with some really interesting characters.

Nice to see Arlette playing a slightly bigger role, I just love that attire at the coffee shop.

I love the authenticity of the show, the shots of Amsterdam look glorious

I adore Lalla Ward, very good as the damsel in distress, not long before she'd make a ripple playing Romana in Doctor Who.

Pru Ransome is excellent as the central villain, she's actually the stronger of the two kidnappers, better even I'd argue than Bishop Brennan himself, Jim Norton.

A shame that fans would have had to wait four years for the show to return, it would look and feel very different when it came back in 1977.

8/10.

This is another episode where Van der Valk has to deal with an obstinate tycoon in a kidnapping case.

Lalla Ward plays Judith Stolle, the sister of hotel magnate Evert Stolle who is overprotective of her sister.

Judith gets kidnapped as she goes to meet her older married lover. He goes to the police but Evert Stolle is unwilling to cooperate with Van der Valk as he makes preparations to pay the ransom.

However there is a real danger that the kidnapers have no plans to return Judith alive. However Judith is more resourceful and manages to leave clues behind.

There are elements in this story that have featured in an earlier episode such as Elected Silence.

Jim Norton plays one of the kidnappers. He is better known for appearing in Father Ted. Christopher Timothy plays a shifty hotel clerk.
