A Well Done Episode
juanruiz-656797 May 2022
True to the original series, this episode continues the logical chronological progression begun in 1933. It stands out due to the fact the focus is on the parents, and their relationship after 25 years of marriage. They both seem so comfortable together, and their little celebration alone is very touching. Set in 1940, the events in Europe naturally play an important backround role.

I mention chronological progression to highlight my big gripe about the subsequent 1990s trilogy, which dumped any relationship to the original series. The "Easter" show, set in 1969, have Liv and John celebrating their 40th anniversary. Based on this episode, it should have been their 54th. Otherwise, all the kids would have been born illegitimate, John Boy would have been 53, and grandma 113.

Misplaced song

Good episode overall. One little mistake- the clan singing "As Time Goes By" at the end. Although written in 1931 it did not become known and popular until performed in "Casablanca" in 1942. This episode took place in 1940.

Finally, a Silver Lining in Season 6!

I give this episode 10 stars for being what seems like one of the few episodes in Season 6 that isn't about the war, and it ends on a happy note!

As I work my way through Season 6, many episodes are downers due to so much war talk and other society problems, which I think makes this episode stand out.

While Mary Ellen and Curt work through marital issues, they work the issues out together which is nice to see; and Ma and Pa Walton are still in love after 25 years of life, kids, and a depression!

The ending is a sweet silver lining for a silver anniversary!
