This episode focuses on Melvin, a failed magician. I am always confused as to what was up with this guy's eyes. I mean, why does he have these goofy cartoonish looking ones when everyone else is like traditionally anime? Also, Melvin is actually kind of a jerk as he hypnotizes Ash to help him. Now I will admit that the overall episode is pretty good. It's interesting to see how the pokemon universe handles a magic show. Of course, couldn't pokemon themselves already be considered magical beings? Well, I guess none of them are modeled after wizards or anything.
Team Rocket were of course great in this episode and even though it was brief, I thought they had some really awesome costumes on. I was very surprised by how they didn't blast off in the end by the time bomb. Instead, they were just carried away by the Exegutor. Still, it was pretty funny to see them hypnotized with them. I heard Exegute only evolve with a Leaf Stone, so how'd they evolve here? They seem to get that wrong a lot. ***
