This is another favorite in my book number 15 to be exact, the MST gang rip apart a lame slasher thriller, ok that's inaccurate more like suspense thriller but doesn't succeed either way. It sort of plays out like a poor mans Scooby Doo like mystery since it's the teen character that are doing the real detective work, only most of the actors aren't even teens, let alone the school they go to is a university which makes the title inaccurate.
The dumb victims fall into the clichéd dark area trap, so there no suspense because you easily know what's going to happen ten miles away, seriously why do they keep thinking it's safe to walk at night alone or even go those directions.
There are some odd scenes let alone acting is just atrocious not one person seems like they've taken acting lessons, like for example in one scene the mom just acts happy for no particular reason the police are questioning her daughter about the case, that scene made me wonder if the mom was high or something.
Also, this film has a character that is the very definition of nerd stereotype, Mikey whom has no balls whatsoever and useless throughout the film (except as a message carrier but that's it), makes you almost wonder why the Strangler hasn't targeted him.
As usual there are a lot of good and memorable riffs, my favorite ones were when the main character and Mikey where talking in a collage dormitory and then suddenly the scene has a very odd cinematography shot that almost looks like one for a porn, of the main character and how he sits, it cracked me up how the MST crew reacted in disgust which is the same with me, seriously what was up with that.
Or one other where the main girl and Mikey they are in what is a confession room at the police station which both don't look like either as they look more like extra space used that the university their filming at. Anyway, this scene both characters are crying as their both spilling their guts, it is the worst crying scene I've ever scene in my life both really overact or underact, what Crow says at the end of that scene cracks me up, "Hose these two off" yeah someone please do.
One of the highlights no doubt is a musical number that is in the film for no reason is the lead girl dancing and singing the ad song for the latest fashion at the time though also sounds like one for a gum "Yipe Stripes" and everyone else in the café joins in. It's one of those songs that are so bad their good, as it is so corny and catchy. This is a song I'd like to download on my iPod and love to play at a MST3K or RiffTrax themed party.
This has a couple of my favorite host segments that to me are both comic gold in my book, one is when both Servo and Crow have constructed some glasses whenever put on would change a person's persona into the super wimp character Mickey. It's just hilarious as Mike is tricked into putting them on and he conveys that persona, he's performance in that host segment is top notch, I really bought into it, however it get's even funnier by the end of it when someone else has the glasses on, I won't say who since that's the best part of it.
The second is when both Crow and Servo are dressed up as rival street gang members and both are having some turf rivalry, a very tiny turf and not even much of a rivalry as both just stand their and spit on the ground spouting out clichéd gangster quibs to each other. But of course, Mike comes in and acts as the peace keeper to both. Really love the names of both their gangs for Crow he's called "The Crow Magnons" and Servo it's "The Hover Mothers". There is also an honorable mention on one of my favorite songs in the show, the Janitor song which is hilarious and fun.
So, everyone sing and dance and be sure to purchase "Yipe Stripes".
