A story of a remarkable woman who you probably never heard of!
planktonrules2 August 2023
"Indians, Outlaws, and Angie Debo" is an unusual installment for many reasons...the best of which is because it's so inspiring. It's also a story about one woman and her seemingly fruitless search for the truth.

This film was made shortly before Dr. Debo's death. It seems that she had a story to tell and very few Americans knew who she was when this installment of "The American Experience" debuted. Why was she such an interesting person that an entire episode was devoted to her? Well, it seems that she was remarkable because she got her doctorate in history at a time when very, very few women even went to college. And, following this, she began to write...and WOW were folks in her home state of Oklahoma upset at what she wanted to put in print. It seems that after exhaustive research, she produced books that documented the theft of Native lands following the discovery of oil on their land. And, instead of giving up this fight, she spent decades writing the truth.

This documentary had a big plus...it mostly consisted of Debo herself telling her story and the story of the local five Indian tribes. It is well told, quite inspiring and well worth seeing.
