ADVENTURES OF THE FALCON – Tangiers Finale – 1954

This is the 9th episode of the 39 episode run of the 1954 to 1956 series, ADVENTURES OF THE FALCON. Film noir icon Charles McGraw headlines as Mike Waring, an agent of the U.S. Government. The series follows McGraw as he travels the world putting the kibosh on various criminals and foreign agents.

In this one, McGraw is called in to Tangiers to help an old friend on a case of some escaped NAZI types. He is to meet his contact at a well-known club in Tangiers. McGraw hits the club and sees his contact sitting off in a far dark corner. He also can't help but notice the main attraction flowing about the dance floor. The dancer, Charlita is doing quite the act.

After taking in the eye candy for a few minutes, McGraw wanders over to the contact's table for a talk. The contact is however not in the mood for conversation, as he has a large knife stuck in his back. He does see that the man has scratched a swastika into the table.

Of course the Police are summoned and the club empties in record time. The Police Inspector, Louis Mercier, is an old hand at these back alley and dive type murders. The usual suspects call is sent out. Our man McGraw though points out that the dead man was after some escaped Nazis. Mercier offers to help as he has no love for the Nazis. He had been a member of the French Underground in the late war.

The main suspect on the list is local "Dutch" importer Steve Bekassy. Bekassy is also a suitor for the hand of the dancer Charlita. Also in the mix is Charlita's brother, Lawrence Dobkin. Matters quickly come to a head when McGraw calls Bekassy out as a NAZI. Guns are drawn and Bekassy bites the big one. McGraw and Inspector Mercier check the man's arm and find the SS tattoo all Gestapo types had. It looks like the case is closed.

McGraw though smells a rat here. The case seemed a bit easy to wrap up. He pulls the same stunt on the dancer's so called brother, Dobkin. Sure enough, more guns are pulled, and it is only the timely arrival of Inspector Mercier that prevents McGraw from taking a trip to the local morgue. Charlita and Dobkin were actually lovers. The two are hauled off to jail. Charlita, for a long stay in jail, while Dobkin has a date to keep with the hangman.
