MPAA Rated PG for action, some peril and mild rude humor

Sex & Nudity

  • Some Female Characters, and Female Extras are Sculpted With Cleavage, the amount is a little more excessive than that of a normal kids film, but nowhere near inappropriate.
  • Madame Frou Frou is always seen wearing a dress revealing some cleavage.
  • You can see the Trolls naked (bottoms) from behind in one scene.
  • A young girl sees a young boy scratching his crotch (he is facing the other way) and tells him, "Don't do that in public, that's why they're called privates!"

Violence & Gore

  • There are several lines in the movie referring to "rivers of blood" and the consumption of "Baby's bones".
  • There is action where the villain and his minions aggressively hunt and capture the boxtrolls.
  • The villain has a severe cheese allergy that makes him puff up grotesquely whenever he consumes cheese.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Champagne Is Being Served At a Party, Though No One is Seen Consuming Any.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The antagonist is sculpted rather creepy which could be frightening to younger viewers. The Boxtrolls themselves, however are quite cute and adorable.

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • A married man is attracted to another woman (Later in the film we find out the woman he was attracted to is actually a man in disguise.) and in one scene he is discussing her with some other men and comparing her to a quality cheese while at the same time he is caressing the cheese. This scene is however in no way sexual.

Violence & Gore

  • Towards the ending, the villain is shown to be disproportionately swollen after entering a large wheel of cheese as a result of his allergy as said before, with his clothes torn off and some blood on his face. He eventually eats a piece of aged cheese, which causes him to explode into pieces. We see a large yellow-orange cloud emerge from the man's stomach and then it expands as we briefly see him getting dismembered and his guts and entrails fly out as well off-screen. This scene is extremely gruesome and graphic, but also very inappropriate for a family-friendly film like this.
  • A man is clobbered over the head with a large wrench, killing him. The deed is done in shadow, but the lead up may be intense for younger viewers The violence in this show may disturb younger viewers.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The Boxtrolls Get crushed by a giant machine, before we're shown that they escaped in a scene about 15 minutes later.
  • The First 30 - 40 Seconds of The Film Could Scare Young Children, As It's Shown As if The Boxtrolls are Terrifying Monsters That Stole a Child (which isn't the case, as seen later in the film)
