A mansion in Taiwan becomes another "Amityville" horror for an American family...
Doylenf4 September 2009
The gorgeous setting for this horror tale is a mansion in Taiwan that, on the surface, appears to be brightly lit, colorful and tastefully decorated in Oriental splendor with sleek modern lines. And yet, not long after the family moves in (because the house comes with the husband's new job in Taiwan), strange things begin to happen.

The mother senses something wrong from the very beginning, but gradually the evil spirits seem to be focusing on her youngest daughter who has several frightening experiences when left alone. The father doesn't want to believe that there's anything supernatural going on.

A Tai clergyman is summoned to rid the house of the demons that seem to want to possess it and he reveals that the very architecture of the home is something intended to cause harm to its occupants.

He goes through a ritual of exorcism but warns the family not to stay on too much longer because whatever he's accomplished will last but a short time. In Taiwan, these kind of spirits are called "hungry ghosts" and he advises the young girl to place a basket of offerings in the yard to appease them. We're asked to believe that these spirits on the other side are searching for earthly comforts. Strange indeed.

It's all rather incredulous but at the same time it's so well acted and crafted that it's bound to give the viewer more than a few scary moments.

Does anyone know where in Taiwan the house is in A Haunting's Hungry Ghosts ???

I am intrigued at how the priest talks about the "architecture" of the house and how it brings out harmful spirits. I really want to see the house in person but will settle for a google maps flyover view. Does anyone know where it is? Lat/Long would be appreciated. Someone has to know this family and/or know the business that the father worked for that furnished him that house. Please speak up or email me. Thank you much.
