Glenn Beck has said that he was not being serious when he claimed that Muse had taken issue with his promotion of their music. The Fox News presenter had praised the group's new album The Resistance on The Glenn Beck Program before suggesting that a band representative had emailed to complain. President of Beck's Mercury Radio Arts company Christopher Balfe said: "After raving (more)...

Conservative talker's publicist says Muse never asked him to retract his on-air endorsement.

Though Glenn Beck fervently proclaimed his affinity for Muse's apocalyptic glam stylings last month, it was hard to figure out where the worlds of the conservative talker and the British prog rockers could meet. And because Beck is often purposely outrageous, it's also hard to tell how much of what he says he believes himself and when he's simply stirring the pot for the sake of good TV or radio.
But we now know one thing for sure: When Beck claimed a few weeks ago that Muse's people insisted he stop raving on about how much he loves the group's new album, The Resistance, he was making a funny.
MTV News reported earlier today that shortly after heaping praise on Muse two weeks ago, and specifically on the song "United States of Eurasia,...

It’s like bringing a dog back to the soiled spot on the carpet. You have to keep showing some people the facts over and over as they seem to have incredibly short or selective memories. Documentary filmmaker John Zeigler is Glenn Beck batty that Katie Couric is receiving the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Television Journalism for an interview she did last September with Alaska governor Sarah Palin. The good Mr. Zeigler asserts that, during the interview, Ms. Couric cornered Governor Palin into a no-win exchange on abortion. I remembered this interview and looked it up. Here’s the section of the interview I believe Zeigler is referring to: Couric: If a 15-year-old is raped by her father, do you believe it should be illegal for her to get an abortion, and why? Palin: I am pro-life. And I’m unapologetic in my position that I am pro-life.

This isn't going to make radio host John Batchelor very popular in certain police precincts of the right blogosphere, but I don't imagine he much cares, and why should he? They're symptomatic of the intellectual rot of the Republican right, battling each other inside a brown paper bag and making an inscrutable rattle.* Batchelor, whose Republican roots run generationally deep, recognizes that the party that exists today resembles Norman Bates' mother in the rocking chair: ...From Herbert Hoover to Robert Taft, from the Bush clan to the ridiculous Tom DeLay, not one note of grace, not a convincing moment of understanding that the Republican Party is about honest liberty for honest, laboring people—not about Wall Street, the tax code, chasing Reds, or bullying the lonely. Vigilant Democrats worry today that the Republican Party is only playing possum, or that it can be revived by extraordinary means such as a Martian invasion.

So much unseen toil and preparation goes into the art of acting of which the general audience--or, as I prefer to think of them, the rabble--is blithely unaware. For the last few days, I've been trying on different costumes, facial hair configurations, and makeup palettes to primp myself for next week's totally happening Tea Parties. Some of my liberal brethren scoff at the worry and concern voiced by Michelle Malkin and others that these peaceable protests will be infiltrated by leftwing agitators acting as agent provocateurs. Steven Benen at The Washington Monthly writes, "Now, I consider myself relatively clued in on what's going on in progressive circles. Not only have I not heard any talk about "sabotaging" these conservative rallies -- I don't know anyone who cares -- I also can't begin to imagine why Soros and/or Acorn would bother." As a freelance saboteur, I am not surprised that...
