Last Episode A Good One

There is no mention of it, but was this the last show in this long-running series? It's the last one listed here at IMDb. Well, if so, they finished with a good episode.

Can Ozzie successfully convert the boys' old bedroom into a den with a pool table? Harriet wouldn't change it; she's sentimental and wants to keep the room as it was last left by the boys. Ozzie would like it to play pool against Joe Randolph. Of course, it's the latter's idea.

It's always a neighbor who gets Ozzie trouble, or is mooching something from him. It began in the early days with "Thorny" (Don DeFore) Lyle Talbot became another one with "Joe Randolph." Too bad Oz has to fight his wife just to get a little fun, but that's married life for you where the women usually boss the men around.....or at least, so I've been told!

To Pool or Not To Pool

This apparently final entry is typical of the series-- low-key, good-natured, and amusing. So, to pool or not to pool. Oz and neighbor Joe (Talbot) maneuver each other into buying a used pool table, which they plan to put in Dave and Rick's old bedroom. Trouble is Harriet and Clara (Croft) plan to turn the room into an antique showplace. So the guys start scheming. I love it when the schemers take the wives to a hip local pool place, hoping to get them interested in the game. Problem is the place operates like a Playboy Club complete with sexy young bunnies. Guess what the wives think of that.

No one was able to get more chuckles out of everyday events than Oz & Co. Looking back after 60 some-years, the show's still a marvel in that respect. Of course, the utterly wholesome format was very much a creature of the time—the upwardly mobile, family-oriented 1950's—and very much a contrast to today's TV programming. But for folks who like occasionally problem-free entertainment, this gentle series is hard to beat. Thanks Oz & Co. for some great light-hearted moments.
