This film shows how guilt can over take a life and how revenge can drive you to desperate acts. The things that i love about this film are the performances. Anthony does another wonderful job as an emotional victim plagued by guilt and Jeff is a hoot and quite the scene stealer. The stand out performance here belongs to Garrett who personifies, terror, anger, doubt and fear all at once and makes the viewer feel as if these emotions are happening to them. Paul also does a good job as a sinister provoker. He is makes me think of the devil on your shoulder in this role, just waiting for you to make the wrong choice.

I was very angry with "the friends" in this film for it was partly their fault that the situation ended as it did. This another example of careless friends. Please also note that although this film is a sequel to Unstable, it can stand as a standalone film because the viewer is provided with enough information in Hatred to fill in some of the gaps from the other film...but still watch Unstable, it will make the whole picture clearer for you.

The improvised dialogue makes the film seem more like a docudrama than a fiction piece, but that is what makes it enjoyable for me, i like the fact that there are boring parts and lulls during some of the scenes, that is real life.

i would recommend this film to anyone who enjoys realistic cinema and performances. The absence of light in the outside scenes and the bluish glow make some of the parts of the film so eerie and the shakiness of the some the camera work give this film a tension and feeling that you will not soon forget.

Normally, drama films don't have sequels, so I wasn't sure what to expect when I received HATRED in the mail, which has marketed itself as a sequel to UNSTABLE, one of my favorite independent films from 2005. The description sounded very promising and I was happy to see that the movie, as well as UNSTABLE and AFTERMATH (which I also ordered) on Amazon.com, for the public to be able to see some of this truly talented director Anthony Spadaccini's movies.

HATRED starts out with a rather long recap of the previous film. Sort of a highlight reel. For those who haven't seen the first movie, this explains a lot. Then it goes into the new stuff. Anthony's character is depressed over the loss of his two friends Jim and Bobby. He is depressed on the night of a birthday party for another friend and doesn't even want to go. He eventually goes and what ensues has to be some of the most shocking footage I've ever seen.

I don't want to give too much away, but let's just say that what happens to Anthony is just plain cruel. I was very angry at the director for allowing this to happen to someone who didn't deserve it and the ending has to be one of the most depressing ends I've ever seen. But I understood why he did what he did and it all made sense.

Some parts of HATRED drag a bit, but in the end I understand why and was just blown away. You must see this film, just to see how everything all plays out!

I didn't realize that 'Hatred' was a sequel until the DVD arrived in the mailbox and I read the back cover. I was slightly disappointed that I didn't know prior to buying the film, because I would have bought 'Unstable' as well, but either way. 'Hatred' tells the story of a guy whose one friend was murdered by his other friend (who later committed suicide) due to an apparent discreet homosexual relationship gone bad. This happened in 'Unstable.' 'Hatred' however deals with the aftermath of those tragic events. A twentysomething ex-film school student deals with his grief during a birthday party for another friend who just wants to have fun and have everyone forget about what happened a year ago. To top things off, two expected guests have a surprising link to the victim and things definitely take a turn for the worst in a surprising second half twist that will leave you speechless and breathless. Not to mention incredibly disturbed.

I think what gets me most about the whole thing is just how realistic it is. People never realize how your selfish actions can affect so many other people who might not have been directly involved by what happened. The main character obviously feels very guilty (and rightfully so) and incurs the wrath of the affected parties, however his other friends were not blameless and that is something that is never specifically addressed, but is also hinted at by a supporting character who serves as the understanding friend who's just trying to have a good time and make the main character forget about the horrible things that had previously happened.

As I said before, the last 20 minutes or so are incredibly disturbing. To the point where I wasn't able to sleep the entire night. The creepiness factor beats that of the end of 'The Blair Witch Project' as in overall shock value. Though this is much more realistic than that film, 'Hatred' does have that cinema verite style going for and adds so much realism to the whole thing that you cannot believe that this is a fictional indie film, you really think like this is a documentary style indie film shot by the main characters. I disagree with one of the reviews, this film would not have worked as a straight forward film.

Even though I already know the ending to 'Unstable' by seeing this movie, I cannot wait to see it as 'Hatred' exceeded all my expectations and turned out to be an extremely disturbing, realistic cinema verite indie shocker!
