The downfall of part 3 began with the ending of Part 2. Speed could not make the jump across the chasm and crashed a thousand feet below. Although "Speed Racer" is pure fantasy, the idea that only the Mach 5 would remain unscathed after such a crash is ludicrous. I found "Crash in the Jungle", where Speed became Tarzan more believable.
The final part of "The Most Dangerous Race" was unable to recover from Speed's awful crash. So what the writers came up with a ridiculous fix where the moral was modified to something called "character". Speed was not the best driver, Racer X basically won the race for him. Supposedly, Speed deserved to win because he warned Snake about oil leaking from his car.
There was a very human reaction from Speed's crew when Snake's car blew up. Understandable, but not what one should expect from the protagonist's side.
