Sex & Nudity

  • There is a scene where the characters must get oxygen underwater by making out with mermen.
  • A man claims that he likes to look at the women working in the retirement center, and a woman tells him that that's sexual harassment.
  • The Magypsies are very flirtatious and there is a suggestive scene involving one in a hot spring. In context however, nothing sexual is happening.

Violence & Gore

  • In battles, the actions are only described, not seen.
  • A woman's death is described early on in the game in somewhat graphic detail.
  • A man has a nervous breakdown and starts swinging a large stick around, knocking down several people. He's then hit on the head with a 2x4 and knocked out.
  • The deaths of several characters are described throughout the game.
  • A young boy's dead body is seen lying on the ground.
  • A woman is stuck in a trap and threatens to cut off her own leg to get out of it.
  • Chapter 3 features very heavy animal abuse.
  • A man and several soldiers are attacked by a dinosaur. We see the man get flung off by the dinosaur. It is later revealed that he is OK.
  • In order to sell "Happy Boxes," the Pigmasks shoot lightning bolts at houses until the people inside buy a Happy Box.
  • Throughout the game, dead bodies of Pigmasks are seen lying around.
  • Some of the enemies have blood on them.
  • Several areas throughout the game are bombed.
  • The story is centered around a group of soldiers that kill animals and sometimes people and bring them back from the dead, usually with robotic parts, and use them as weapons.

Profanity

  • Several uses of the words damn, hell, ass, and bastard.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • There is a part where the main characters eat some mushrooms and start having very strange and disturbing hallucinations.
  • There is a scene in which multiple ghosts are having a party. We see a few of them drinking wine. Some of them appear to be drunk.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • It should be noted that this is definitely Nintendo's darkest game (next to "Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem"), which is a potential reason it has never been officially released outside of Japan. There are many mature themes throughout this game involving loss of loved ones, human greed, dictatorship, and animal cruelty. Although there are some humorous parts of the game, for the most part it's very dark and depressing.
  • The entire game is very sad. Many characters are killed and there are several sad cutscenes involving those characters.
  • The heavy animal abuse in Chapter 3 may upset some players.
  • The part of the game where the characters start hallucinating after eating mushrooms could disturb some people.
  • The Chimera Lab is very suspenseful and could frighten some players.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • In one scene Lucas falls from and loses his grip on a flying object and his dog saves him from falling to his death by pulling him back up. However in the process, Luca's pants fall down revealing his bare butt. Nothing else is shown though and the other characters blush in embarrassment.

Violence & Gore

  • After Claus reveals himself to be The Masked Man at the conclusion of the final battle, he commits suicide by shooting a giant bolt of lighting at a reflective surface causing it to bounce back and strike him. Perhaps the most emotional and dark moment of the game
  • One of the villains slips off of a tower. He dies, but is later brought back from the dead as a chimera.
  • The main characters fall off of a helicopter. It is later revealed that they're all OK.
  • Whenever a Needle is pulled, a Magypsy dies and is seen dying. This is not graphic.
  • There is a long cutscene at the end of the game that shows the islands being completely destroyed by the Dragon.
  • Towards the end of the game, Claus attacks the main characters with PK Thunder. We see them get struck down by the lightning.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • After Lucas pulls the final needle, the Earth begins to quake causing storms and destruction. After enough destruction is done, it is implied that everything and everyone dies. In a cutscene after this, it is also implied that the Earth is reborn, but it's never actually confirmed
  • Lucas' twin brother, a child, kills himself right in front of his brother and father. Very emotional and hard to watch.
  • Claus one of the main characters, tries to avenge his mother, and gets heavily injured/dead in the process, you see his body at the bottom of a cliff. It is later revealed that he was found by the pig masks, and they turned him into a mindless reconstructed soldier, and implied that he is a walking corpse. Keep in mind that this is a child
  • Porky Minch from Earthbound is the final boss of this game. However, when he appears his skin is extremely pale and his hair is completely grayed. What makes this frightening is that Porky is still a child, but his body aged rapidly and became immortal due to excessive time travel. Also, when he speaks he coughs and wheezes, showing how old he has gotten. On top of this, he experiences sadness in the fact that he has effectively become a god and is unable to die because of the time travel.
  • After the somewhat final battle against Porky, He seals himself inside the "Absolutely Safe Capsule," Which keeps him inside for all of eternity, and, as stated before, Porky is immortal due to his constant time travels.
