An interesting start turns out to be all the film offers

Morgan is a nine year old boy who lives with his mother. It is time for him to spend the day with his father Rod. Although Morgan looks forward to it, it is clear that Rod is full of frustration and not overly happy about the state of his life. Regardless he forces himself out of it and takes his son to the park for a walk but it seems that he has no intention of doing more than the minimum.

Not entirely sure what to make of this film. The plot is a day spent together with a young son and a father who has little time for anyone but himself – even if that means wallowing in self-pity and frustration. It is amusing but it is stretched too thin to actually be funny. It is interesting but it never takes the characters beyond the superficial level that it starts with them on. Director Bee makes it all look good but beyond that he seems uncertain of what he is trying to do with it – which is strange considering he wrote it. I can only assume he is drawing on a personal experience and that this maybe happened to him, but he doesn't let the audience share the perspective he had as writer and I was left wondering what the point was – tell it wasn't just to get us to a punch line of a child swearing? Overall then an interesting start turns out to be all the film offers. It doesn't have any depth and it isn't funny enough to cover up for it.
