Conversation reveals vital information.

Warning: Spoilers
It's obvious by their conversation that Victoria Winters would be better off having Maggie Evans as a friend than Carolyn Stoddard, as Maggie's easy going nature is sincere and not covered by the Collins family curse or the dark cloud of a cultural reference that Maggie makes. Practically every character is mentioned, and this is probably the first episode where there is no Collins family member present. But the family is all this episode is about, dealing with the secrets being covered up from ten years before. Joe's searching for Carolyn, on a trip upstate with Burke Devlin, and others seen are Sam Evans and Bill Malloy, hanging out at the Blue Whale.

The past from ten years before is revealed in a way that is rather direct on the surface, a car accident involving Burke, Roger and Roger's wife, Laura. Somebody was killed, but who? Decent overall, this episode screams for a bit more action even if more is added to the growing mystery.

"You and Your Premonitions"
wes-connors27 August 2011
At the Collinsport hotel restaurant, Maggie (Kathryn Leigh Scott) handles her props very well as Malloy (Frank Schofield) arrives for coffee and conversation. The coffee costs ten cents, but the conversation is free. They discuss Sam, who hasn't been himself since Burke came back to town. Malloy thinks Sam may possess dangerous information. Vicki (Alexandra Moltke) walks in and lets Malloy know Liz is looking for him. Maggie tells Vicki her father turned moody ten years ago, even though he sold "a bunch of paintings" for a lot of money...

At the Blue Whale, Joe (Joel Crothers) looks for Carolyn but finds Malloy, clearing his throat. Malloy cryptically tells Joe he's investigating something. Later, Malloy drinks with a tormented Sam (David Ford), and reminds him, "Burke Devlin and Laura and Roger Collins were in a car that killed someone." We now know Laura Collins was in the car with Burke and Roger. The unnamed comic strip character Maggie refers to is "Joe Btfsplk" from the "Li'l Abner" comic strip. Perfect for "Dark Shadows", he always appears with a dark cloud over his head...

Endless conversation

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 43 and it's once again saddled with a plodding pace and generally revolves around low key conversations. The mystery this time around arises from the character of Sam and what he knows about the circumstances of the past that saw Burke Devlin going to prison. It's all rather perfunctory rather than engaging, lacking the finesse of the series highs so far (for example, the drama arising at the conclusion of Roger's car accident story).
