This episode has less information on technology than on history. Alexander the Great, aka Colin Firth, inherits the colonial impulses of his father, Philip the Macedonian, aka Frederick March. (I'm inserting some jokes here. Some may want to look them up.) Alexander was a curious guy. He was a warrior who not only knocked off the Persian Empire, with whom Greece had been at war for centuries, but went on to put claim to half of India as well. He was a student of Aristotle's and sent his tutor samples of wildlife from all the areas he visited. Imagine that -- a ruler who is also an intellectual! He died at an early age or, who knows? We might all be speaking Greek today.
As I say, there isn't much technology here -- the crossbow and the longer-than-usual pike -- but that's about it.
