DS Boulton leads a drugs raid, it goes wrong, leaving Boulton in a terrifying situation.
This works incredibly well, one of those episodes that makes you feel incredibly uncomfortable, the content, story and deliveries all make you feel.
It's not the happiest start to the year, after the last few episodes it seemed likely that they'd start the year with a lighter tone, instead they went for what would perhaps be one of the show's bleakest stories.
It's still relatively early in the day for the understanding of HIV, it was still seen as a death sentence, fortunately things have changed hugely since 1997.
Possibly the best performance so far from Russell Boulter, love or hate John Boulton, there is no denying the actor's capabilities, here they give us a very different side to him, for the first time we get to see him vulnerable, and even more angry than normal, you really get a sense of his turmoil and fear.
Moving, 9/10.
